Appearance: John cuts a tall, dark, and handsome figure standing at 6' 2" with a slim but muscular frame. Both his eyes and hair are a dark brown. He tries to keep his face shaved but at times it comes off with a five o'clock shadow. He keeps his hair short as well. He's not one to spend a lot of time on his appearance and the short hair makes it easier.
When working, which is most of the time it seems, John can be found in a suit or dress pants and shirt. On the weekends he gets wild once and awhile and actually sports jeans and a t-shirt.
Personality: Not much of a people person, John does not go out of his way to get to know people. Must of the people in his life are people that just burst into it and then just never went away on their own. There are very few people that John opens up to as he is a very private person. John is an intelligent person and runs mostly on reason. His sense of humor runs more along the lines of sarcasm.
Special abilities/talents: John can read and translate Latin. He is skilled in using a crossbow and a gun.

History: John was the first male witch born to a line of female witches. All other males in his line before him never showed any magical talent. His mother seeing the signs of magic in him started teaching him at a young age. He had potential and she wanted to see him reach it. John caught on quickly and took his magic studies more seriously than his school work. After all to him it was magic that was going to take him somewhere in this world, not what they were teaching him in school.
His family only practiced white magic and this what he was taught. The other magics caught his interest but his mother forbid him from learning them. Going behind his mother's back, John started studying black magic. White magic was good for setting wards and healing, but if something broke through the wards, how was one to defend themselves. He managed to keep the fact that he was using black magic from his mother until the day they were attacked.
Eighteen at the time, John was walking home from the store with his mother as the sun was setting. It seemed that the moment the sun set they were attacked by a rogue vampire. Reacting without thinking, John caused the vampire to combust from the inside out. His mother was horrified and refused to talk to him to for several days. When she finally did she gave him a choice: give up black magic or leave and never come back. Unable to give it up, John packed up and left. He hasn't been home since.
For the first few years he traveled from place to place working odd jobs. No matter where he went he kept up his magic studies. John tried to be careful where he used his magic but one day he was caught in the middle of a spell by a hunter. Impressed by John's talent and knowing it could be a strong tool, the hunter offered to teach him the trade.
Since that day, John's life has been one hunt after another, one city then on to the next. That is until now. Tired of the hunt, John has retired and decided to settle in Mysteria to set up his shop. To the outside it's an occult shop. To hunters that know it's a good place to get specialized weapons and spells.
Flaws: Smoker: Nasty little habit and one of these days John is probably going to end up with cancer or cause someone to end up with from the second hand smoke. Does John care? No.
Addicted: Like all black magic users who reach the level that John has, he's totally addicted. There's no giving it up and he uses it at times when he could have done things without magic.
Loner: John is anything but the life of the party. That corner of the bar? Totally has his name on it. Sure you can try to sit next to him and strike up a conversation but he's likely to just stare at you. There are very few people who manage to get under John's skin.
Death Wish: John isn't looking to die, but he really doesn't care if he does either. It causes him to try dangerous spells that could kill him if they back fired and causes him to take risks that others wouldn't.
Merits: Eidetic Memory: John can recall anything that he has seen in his books. Helpful for when remembering which book something is in and recalling spells.
Concentration: The world could be falling down around John and still his concentration while doing a spell would not falter.
